Steven Phu

Steven is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and PhD candidate at UNSW Sydney and Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA). With over 10 years of experience as an exercise physiologist, Steven specialises in the prevention and treatment of falls particularly in older adults diagnosed with osteoporosis, sarcopenia and frailty. As part of his clinical work, Steven has also contributed to the Australia and New Zealand Society for Sarcopenia and Frailty Research Taskforce on Sarcopenia and Global Leadership Initiative in Sarcopenia which aims to develop universally accepted sarcopenia guidelines for clinical practice.

Steven is currently undertaking his PhD at NeuRA investigating the neuromuscular mechanisms underlying the effects of reactive balance training in older adults. As part of his PhD, he is working on a randomised control trial implementing a reactive balance training program of repeated slips and trips with a goal to guide clinical practice on the use of reactive balance training for falls prevention.
