Dr Jean Pierre (JP) Ndabakuranye is a Research Fellow in Functional Materials and Microsystems at RMIT University, working at the intersection of biomedical optics, optoelectronics and miniaturised sensing technologies. His research focuses on developing compact optical and optoelectronic platforms for point-of-care diagnostics, wearable and implantable devices, and translational health applications.
He holds a PhD in Biomedical and Optoelectronic Engineering from The University of Melbourne and a Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering from Hallym University, Republic of Korea. His work spans optical biosensing, including bilirubin and fluorescence-based detection, embedded electronics, and integrated device development for monitoring clinically relevant biomarkers.
His emerging research explores lightweight, low-power sensing systems for biological and environmental monitoring, including plant health. His research aims to translate advanced sensing technologies into portable and wearable platforms for continuous, personalised and accessible monitoring.
