Mehwish Mehwish

Mehwish is currently pursuing her PhD in the School of Biomedical Engineering at UNSW Sydney, specialising in real‑world gait analysis and wearable sensor technologies for Parkinson’s disease. She completed her Master of Science in Electrical Engineering in 2023 in Pakistan, where she developed strong foundations in machine learning, biomedical signal processing, and human movement analysis. She has published two conference papers in the areas of electromyography signal classification and deep learning–based disease detection.

Her PhD research focuses on understanding gait fluctuations in everyday environments and developing sensor‑based rehabilitation approaches to improve functional mobility in people living with Parkinson’s disease. She is part of the international “Steps against the burden of Parkinson’s disease” (StepUP) project, funded under the Joint European Programme for Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND), where she contributes to advancing wearable gait assessment and personalised intervention strategies. As a member of the ARC Hub for Connected Sensors of Health, her goal is to help develop accurate, scalable, and clinically meaningful sensor‑driven solutions that translate laboratory insights into real‑world improvements in mobility and quality of life.
